In mythology, when a god or a genie offers to grant a wish, it is always vitally important to word your request carefully. The being granting the wish will try to find a way to make you regret it.
So I'm thinking that when for so many years so many Republicans wished that they could go back to the days before the New Deal, they weren't thinking right before.
